CIRCE’S TEETH COSY

Circe’s Teeth Cosy: Tea Cosy made by Ebay seller Susan Lindley and letter, animal teeth, 25 x 25cm

Circe’s Teeth Cosy, shown at London’s Cookhouse Gallery and Take Courage Gallery, questioned the concept of mythical female monsters and fears of vagina dentata while sewing new feminist absurdist symbolic patterns into the fabric of myth.

Inspired by Madeline Miller’s feminist re-telling of the Odyssey from Circe’s point of view, Fathers subverts a domestic object and imagines Circe as a contemporary online shopper as well as domestic goddess, witch, lover and mother, including a letter from Ebay seller Susan Lindley to acknowledge her knitted skills and contribution to the final piece.

Technology changes, but human behaviour does not, which perhaps explains the enduring appeal of ancient myths.
